A commitment to quality throughout our entire manufacturing process

Manufacturing the right way

Using advanced equipment, our quality team methodically tests our raw ingredients, and then our production team meticulously crafts each supplement with the utmost consideration for details, from mixing the raw materials to encapsulating and bottling the finished product. Because we manufacture many of our products in our facility in Summerville, South Carolina, we have total authority over what goes into our products, so we refuse to use magnesium stearate or any other arbitrary filler that can inhibit absorption. Using unnecessary ingredients goes against our belief to design and provide optimal solutions for health. To meet the highest quality standards we also ensure that our facility is third-party certified.

  • cGMP Certified

Thorne has an exemplary record of compliance with the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Our manufacturing facility, warehouses, and shipping centers are inspected and have passed every inspection without issuance of an FDA Form 483.

  • NSF Certified

Thorne’s facility is NSF Certified and manufactures more than 30 NSF Certified for Sport® products, which gives athletes complete confidence in our nutritional supplements. This is particularity important for the number of U.S. National Teams, athletes of the NBA, NFL, and UFC that we partner with as an exclusive provider.

  • TGA Certified

Thorne has an A rating from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration, widely recognized as the toughest regulatory agency in the world. Only a handful of U.S. companies have achieved certification, and Thorne is the first U.S. nutritional supplement company to be fully certified.

We develop better standards for higher quality ingredients

Sourcing exceptional ingredients

Thorne cares deeply about where our ingredients come from. Our research and development team is tasked with sourcing exceptional ingredients, maintaining oversight of an ingredient's origin, and providing complete supply chain transparency. We partner only with suppliers whose practices emphasize quality, science, and environmental responsibility. We believe that better ingredients mean better potency, absorption, and digestibility - and ultimately better health.

Committed to 100% Clean

At Thorne, clean describes supplements that do not contain any harmful or unnecessary ingredients. Our "No" List guides us every day in choosing which ingredients to source and how to formulate new products, so you can feel confident about what you are putting in your body.

Maximizing Absorption

To maximize supplementation, the primary goal is to be able to absorb the most amount of the nutrient from the fewest number of capsules and without any side effects. That is why at Thorne, we focus on form and delivery.

Conventional iron supplementation, for example, can cause gastrointestinal side effects because most conventional forms of iron are poorly absorbed. Thorne's Iron Bisglycinate (Ferrochel®) is a patented chelated form of iron that results in optimal absorption and minimal side effects.

Some botanicals such as Turmeric and Quercetin are also poorly absorbed in their original forms so the use of formulation technologies such as phytosomes and sustained release help to optimise how our bodies absorb the benefits of these active ingredients.

Clinical Research

At Thorne, our confidence that each product we formulate and manufacture works in the body comes from extensive clinical research and medical literature that substantiate the presence of each ingredient in each formula.

In addition to confirming the efficacy of our products, clinical research helps us better understand their efficacy. And it paves the way for new discoveries.

At any given time, numerous Thorne nutritional supplement products are being tested in clinical trials taking place around the world. Our collaborations with independent researchers help us scientifically confirm the efficacy and safety of our products and explore new potential for them.

modern, in-house laboratories

Four rounds of testing

Raw materials and components

We test every raw material and component. In our in-house laboratory we screen for raw material contaminants.

In-process testing

In-process testing helps ensure the correct amount of ingredients are used in our formulations, and we stringently check for any bottle, label, or capsule defects throughout the manufacturing process.

Finished product testing

Before being released for sale, finished products are tested to confirm the identity, potency, and purity of the ingredients, and to confirm that no microbiological contamination occurred during manufacturing.

Stability testing

We test product stability to confirm each product will meet its label claims up to the product’s expiration date.
